hope this holiday season is you enjoy the holidays with your family you make memories that last a lifetime you do the gifts you do the tree you do all the
things but let’s let’s remember King Jesus let’s remember what this season is truly all about let’s rally around the

amen it is Christmas season at Champions Center the the decor is up the Christmas songs are playing in the
hallways and we love this season at our church and we just want to encourage you as a church family let’s let’s really rally around the house of God this
holiday season and there’s people that you know that should be in the house of God there’s a seat that’s next to you behind you in front of you that should
be filled with someone so let’s be bold this holiday season let’s be Bringers this holiday season because statistics show us that people are more likely to
come to church on a during the holiday season than any other time of the year so people’s hearts are open this holiday
and let’s be Bringers amen amen before we jump into the message I want to honor our pastors Pastor Kevin and Sheila um like
you I get to sit in a seat just like you in every single week be pastored and got
the get the opportunity to be close with pastor Kevin and this past week I got to see him in a different environment where he wasn’t pastoring his flock he was
pastoring some other past pastors and to watch him do that in a room with other pastors it gives me more confidence to follow this man cuz he is
consistent he is integrous and I just want to honor you and say thank you for your integrity all these years and let’s not take for
granted the leaders that we have that we get to sit under people are standing here in Tacoma if you’re not standing at other locations can we honor our
pastors love you amen love that we have a church of
Honor we are in a series called your story his glory and we are in part two if I have not met you my name is
Jonathan and my wife and I lead our Dupont location as the pastors there and we get the opportunity to oversee our next Generation Ministries as well and I
am so excited to bring the word to you today your story his his glory part two we’re going to start in Matthew 1:18
it’ll be on the screens at all locations starts off like this this is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came
about his mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph but before they came together she was found to be pregnant
through the holy spirit because Joseph her husband was faithful everyone say faithful because he was faithful to the
law and yet did not want to expose her to Public Disgrace he had in mind to divorce her quietly
but after he had considered this an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said Joseph son of David do
not be afraid someone say do not do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife because what is conceived in her is from
the Holy Spirit and she will give birth to a son and you are to give him the name Jesus because he will save his
people from their sins all of this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet
the Virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and they will call him Emmanuel which means god with us and when Joseph
woke up he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife but he did not
consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son and gave him the name Jesus as the Lord had
asked a prayer of mine today and a hope of mine today is that we can Elevate the awareness that God has
invited you into a story that he has written God has a preferred future for your life he has a preferred future for
my life and he has invited all of us to be a part and can I tell you what he has invited us to be a part of is greater than and is better than anything that
you can think of or conjure up on your own but sometimes we’re going to unpack in this
story even God’s story for our life takes some unexpected turns but even still the invitation that
he sends us I’m telling you this invitation leads to life this invitation leads to transformation this invitation
leads to a life that is being used by God it is a life that is full of Faith getting out of comfort zone it’s the kind of life that you can lay your head
on your pillow at night and you can rest with peace because you know that you are walking with God and God is with you
this is the life that we’re invited into and I want to talk about that today can we pray real fast father we love you God
I thank you for today God this is the day that you have made and as your church we choose to rejoice and say that
we are glad in it thank you for today God you brought us all here because you want us to leave different so I just pray that today holy spirit that you
would tailor make this message and it would plant seeds in the hearts and in the minds of people so our hearts are open including mine our minds are ready
Lord help us in Jesus mighty name everyone said amen amen have you ever
have you ever got some unexpected news in your life um some news maybe that left you with uh more questions than
answers um I got a quick story I I’m a risk taker I love taking risks um back in the day if you like growing up for me
as a teenager if someone says you won’t do that or you won’t eat that like that is the ultimate Challenge and I’m I’m snowboarding with
some friends and it’s one of the last runs of the day and my friend looks at me and he goes you won’t do a
backflip say I won’t right that’s my response say I won’t and we’re going down the mountain and we we reach the
part where the jump is and I’ve done a backflip on a trampoline I’ve done a backflip I used to be in a circus when I was in elementary I’ve done all kinds of
flips but I’ve never done a back flip with something that is attached to me that does not come off and is a part of me while I’m flipping okay so I’m like say I won’t so
I hit this jump and I send it I full send full send and I go for the back flip now when you do a back flip you want your body to rotate all the way
around so your feet end where they start right well on this day my my body decided it’s only going to rotate 50% so
my feet are up my face is down and and I come down on and thank God I’m wearing a helmet and I come down and I mean I just
cranked my neck and it was just just cracked and it hurt I was in pain I get up and I’m like I’m fine guys like I’m
fine trying to play it off and I am just stiff well long story short I didn’t know this my crank my my neck was
cranked so bad that it was putting pressure on everything else in my neck and my brain was not getting the blood that it needed and that night as I’m
sleeping I actually have a seizure my my mom and dad obviously do they they freak out and they take me to the hospital I go to the hospital and I get my brain
tested I got wires all over my brain they tell me I have to fall asleep and I have to as they’re testing my as they’re doing all these tests on my brain and
all this and the they do the test they get the results and the doctor walks in and I got some news that I was not
expecting doctor walks in and this what he says like word for word verbatim I’m not making this up he looks at us and he
says well son uh Mom and Dad it it looks like we have some abnormal brain activity
happening that was it like normally you want to follow up you know with that you want you want some more information after that and he just says we got some
abnormal brain activity and that was just it and I’m you know as you can tell like I’m I’m not expecting that news like things are running through my head
what’s wrong am I going to be okay is everything like we’re going to pan out like okay like all these things are going through my head it left me with
more questions than answers neither this to say we left that doctor okay cuz he he didn’t even give us any other information okay and we went to our
chiropractor and Dr Simmons who served many people in our church so Faithfully throughout the years we go to my chiropractor and the chiropractor does
some x-rays he’s confirms yeah your neck is out okay you you really jacked up your neck but here’s the good news we can we can do some adjustments and we
can get your neck back in line and that feeling that you have in your head that’s going to go away and you’re going to be fine and everything’s going to be okay I left that doctor with a smile on
my face I left that doctor knowing that everything’s going to be okay right one doctor let me having a lot of questions
a lot of what is really going on here another doctor gave me some peace gave me some confidence that everything was going to be okay thank God everything is
okay and that doctor helped me out but I got some news that was unexpected right this is where we find
ourselves in Joseph’s life Jo Joseph just a little bit about him he was a carpenter Joseph was a he was a good man
the Bible says that he was faithful to the law Joseph was a man of obedience he
lived a godh honoring life and he had a good reputation with people and him and his fiance Mary were
about to get married when he got some unexpected news and his story was about to take a little bit of a turn his wife
was soon to be pregnant and why was this unexpected if you don’t know the story is because it
is is not his biological child when he first finds out he doesn’t know that this was a part of the story
that God had planned and that and that Mary was actually still a virgin but all he knew was that she was pregnant and that could only mean one thing this is
somebody else’s child you thought reality TV was good you got to go read your
Bible Joseph while he yes he was a faithful man the Bible says but he was still only a man and as a man that that is some news you
don’t want to hear just on a casual Tuesday right we see that Joseph he he starts to have these
moments he’s confused he’s he’s angry I’m sure that he’s hurt the Bible says that he had it in
his mind to divorce her quietly he had it in his mind to throw in the towel he had it in his mind to
give up the man that God chose to raise Jesus as an Earthly father almost missed
part of the story that God wanted to do in his life every day you and I have the
opportunity to walk in God’s story and watch it unfold or talk ourselves out of
it what story is your life telling right now what do you do when God throws a
curveball and you you’re not expecting it what do you do when you can’t solve it on your own and you need God to come
through I’ve learned in my life that God is not looking for full understanding he is looking for full trust and obedience
in him I’ve heard it said like this our Pastor said it like this God doesn’t
change his plans to accommodate our fears when we don’t understand when we don’t have the full
picture God’s not looking for us for full understanding he’s looking for us to trust TR in him and when God wants to do something when God calls us all he is
looking for is a willing and available person Joseph was no one special he was an ordinary man God just looks for a
willing available person that will say yes notice what God doesn’t do he doesn’t go like hey Joseph like I I know this is going to put you in an awkward
scenario okay like I I know you got a good reputation right now with your family and the community but that’s all about to change okay like are you okay with this Joseph like are you
comfortable with being uncomfortable no no no God doesn’t do that justifiably Joseph could have divorced
Mary he could have asked God why he could have left but he didn’t and even in his lack of understanding and what
was happening in his life he chose to still trust God so often you and I we
want all the details we want the step by step we want the outcome and God’s just like will you just
obey will you just obey obedience is God’s love language Jesus said if you
love me obey my Commandments when we obey God we give him glory you want your you want your story to give God glory
live a life of obedience you want your you want your life to show God that you love him obey what he has asked you to do when we
disobey we are not showing God that we love him but when we obey we are showing God that we love him and that we trust
him and we try to bring in our own human understanding and God is like don’t lean on your understanding Proverbs 3:5 trust
in the Lord everyone say trust trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding but in all your ways one one translation says
acknowledge Him another says submit to him and he will make your path straight that’s a holistic trust that’s
a trust when it’s good that’s a trust when it’s hard that’s a trust when you don’t understand that’s a trust in the darkest nights that’s a trust when you get unex expect a news that’s a trust
when you are being Afflicted that is a trust when you are in Temptation trust in the Lord at all times at all
times and Joseph had a moment where he was leaning on his own understanding and that would have pulled him away from the
story and the plan that God had for his life but I love God in his kindness and
in his grace in that moment where Joseph was wanting to leave and want to quit God shows up he sends an angel he says
do not be afraid and on that day Joseph made a courageous decision to trust God even though he didn’t fully
understand if God called you if God has prompted you if God has been asking of you if God has has told
you something to do with in your life can I tell you that you have everything that you need to walk it out God’s not going to call you
somewhere that he has not yet prepared for you I’ve learned that what you see as an
inconvenience is often an invitation staying with
Mary man that had some inconvenience for Joseph I mean his reputation was on the line that’s
inconvenient he lost some relationships that’s inconvenient I’m sure people judged him
I’m sure people mistreated him I’m I’m sure that he was misunderstood that’s all inconvenient he had to change some
of his plans that’s inconvenient and your flesh our flesh and our human mind will try to talk us
out we’ll try to feel our way out and we try to push us away from what God wants us to do but church family when God
calls it is always an invitation it’s never an inconvenience some of you in the room
you want to better marriage things aren’t that great right now when it comes to your marriage and you know in your heart that a
conversation could start something down the track and dominoes can begin to fall but that conversation feels a little uncomfortable and that conversation
feels a little bit inconvenient to have and it sounds hard to have and it might be a little bit awkward and we let inconvenience back us down but can I tell you that conversation that God’s
prompting you to have is an invitation and that conversation can lead to some wholeness and it can lead to some healing and it can lead to you being in
a better place in your marriage what seems as an inconvenience is an invitation you want your finances to be
blessed things are tight right now going into the holiday season how do I buy all of these gifts we just go through a series called good Pharma pastor Kevin
lays out a challenge for our church family a 90-day challenge let’s let’s bring our tithe to the house of God but my tithe I need all 100% of my
income God can do more with 90% then you can do more with 100% of your income and God’s just saying it’s an
invitation am I sound inconvenient how am I going to do this how am I going to do that how am I going to pay the bills it might sound inconvenient but it’s an invitation for your finances to be
protected and to be blessed and for provision to come into your life everyone say invitation young
adult young adults in the room you want a life of purpose you want to be used by God you want this season to be to have
meaning to it this is not the season where it’s live it up and and test drive the car and see if you like it and build
your testimony this is an opportunity this is an invitation God is inviting you into a season of your life that you’re never going to get
back this is your time to get passionate about the house of God passionate about the word of God passionate about being used by God rather than trying to fit in
and rather than trying to be like everyone else and go with the culture this is is an invitation to be used by
God I was talking to I was talking to someone not long ago and I’m I’m I’m encouraging them
with those kind of things and the response was well nothing is wasted with God true God can turn anything into good
are you thankful for that this morning like God can turn any situation into good that is very true but I responded and I just said but don’t waste time
but don’t waste your life on just Mindless unintentional living right now I think there’s things in our life
sometimes that God would rather not have to turn around to good but we find ourselves in spaces and in places because of how we’re doing things and
living things and we miss the invitations and we cause more inconvenience for
ourselves you got a business in your heart man it sounds inconvenient that’s work that’s resource
that’s strategy that’s building the team that’s hard might sound inconvenient but you also have it in your heart to be a
greater blessing to others you also have it in your heart to be able to give more to the house of God that’s an
invitation to be used by God let it be said of our stories like Joseph’s that we were faithful when God called that we
were faithful when God prompted that we were faithful and obedient and we didn’t let inconvenience back us down but we accepted the invitation that God wanted
to do in our life I love our church because there are
stories in every single auditorium today people that have had the courage people that while not perfect and it hasn’t
always been easy but people that have trusted God they’ve been obedient even when it didn’t make sense even when you didn’t have all of the answers growing
up in this house I decided a long time ago that that is the kind of life that I want to live I want to live a life that trusts
God I want to live a life that is literally on the edge I want to live a life where God is prompting me and I don’t fully understand but he’s saying
go for it son I’m with you I got you you’re going to be okay we’re going to get I want to live that kind of life and I look back on my life and I
see all the times I felt God calling me and sometimes honestly I I’ve let I still let sometimes
inconvenience or that’s hard or I don’t know if I’m the one for the job I still let that back me down but there’s so many other times that I I just have so
much fulfillment when God when God calls and I’ve been obedient to it and I’ve seen the blessing and I’ve seen the ripple effect of when I when I step out in faith and that’s what God wants for
you and me I remember being in high school and I remember my youth pastor saying we’re going to have an invite night and I want you to bring friends to
church okay when you’re in high school inviting friends to church that’s out of your comfort zone that’s a little bit that’s a little bit scary what are people going to say are they even going
to come are they going to judge me are they even going to want to come like all these thoughts are flooding through your head I remember having this invite night and I tell my youth pastor I want to
invite my track team I was running track at the time and I I talked to him he’s like okay let’s invite your track team so I go to my coach my coach lets me
invite the whole team and a bunch of people said they wanted to come so I actually rented a school bus I ran at a school bus I heard this story from pastor Kevin when he was in Youth
Ministry that’s why our stories matter that’s why Church matters cuz you hear stories that prompt you to do things with your life and I hear this story and
this school bus comes and 76 students came to youth that night and I got pizza on the bus and we had a little bus Ministry going and we were picking up
over a hundred students on the bus each week from different high schools and middle schools in the surrounding area sounded inconvenient sounded really
scary I was really nervous but it was an invitation to be used by God I remember Legacy offering 2021 we just went
through Co my wife and I are praying what are we going to give this year what do we believe in God for this year and
in 2021 we we we gave our biggest Legacy offering that we ever gave we were so excited we were so jazzed to show we showed up to church with our shoulders
back this is our house we’re going to give this and during during our our giving party my wife looks over at me
she says Jonathan I think we’re supposed to double what we’re giving today not hearing
that not hearing that and we talked about it and we chatted about
it and we we decided we trust God and we we gave double what we were
planning on giving inconvenient yeah could have done a lot scary yeah but I would never take it
back I never regret it you know what I’ve never heard someone say you know what I’ve never said man I just really wish I didn’t trust God there you know I
just really wish that I would have done it my way I just really wish that God didn’t prompt me to be used by him I’ve never heard anyone say that every time
God prompts you every time God calls you every time God says your name it’s an
invitation it’s an invitation come on Church let’s Let It Be said of our story like Joseph’s that
we were faithful we were faithful to God’s way and our courage and our OB obedience it gives God glory
everyone say Glory what does it mean to give God glory it is to be what God meant for me to be and do what God meant
for me to do you want to give God glory be who he’s meant for you to be do what he’s meant for you to do when we buy our
three-year-old son new toys Our Hope and I’m sure the designer’s hope as well is that our three-year-old son will use
that toy how it is supposed to be used it’s he’s a toddler that doesn’t happen okay if you got a toddler in the
room you probably know our good friend Danny go and Danny go has this episode that’s called sink or float and he takes items in your house and puts them in
water and he says will it sink or will it float and the kids love it our son loves it well our son likes to take RC cars our son likes to take electronics
our son likes to take things that cost some money that have some value and submerge them in water and you know what happens those toys no longer work they
rust out the batteries go out they don’t do how they don’t work how they’re supposed to be work and they need to be repaired because there’s been misuse and
you know who gets upset our three-year-old toddler he gets really mad that the RC car no longer
works right but that can be us sometimes that can be us sometimes you want to give God glory with your life be
who he’s meant for you to be do what he’s called you to do when you do it God’s way you give him glory when you do
it God’s way you give him glory God intended for all of us to become fully devoted followers of Jesus to take our
everyday ordinary lives and give it back to him he intended for us to get planted in the house of God it was mentioned earlier Church Essentials no better time
than to do it today I know on the west side all all locations they’re doing a an allinone today okay this is like the best time to do it some of you have been
putting it off for some time you’ve been feeling that nudge of the holy spirit it’s time to get planted it’s time to get today is your day wait no longer get
connected to the house of God and here’s why it matters here’s why it matters because
your obedience is not just about you your obedience also blesses others Matthew 1:21 she will give birth
to a son and you are to give him the name Jesus because he will save his people from their
sins all of this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the
Prophet Joseph was invited Into The Greatest Story Ever
Told God shows up to his front door Hey Joe here’s the deal man about to have a
son I want you to be his Earthly father like the Bible sometimes it’s like massive understatement you know like God
shows up Hey Joe I’m going to have a son and you’re going to raise him and by the way he’s going to save the world okay so like no pressure Joe right like I want
you Joseph to introduce and Usher in the savior of the world and save people from their sins but we read that Joseph is a man of
obedience there’s many times even before this moment that the Bible the Bible talks about how God shows up commands him to do something and the Bible says
Joseph did what the Lord had commanded I get the sense that Joseph knew that his obedience gave God
glory I get the sense when I when I read about this man that he knew that his obedience was also a blessing to other
people I mean we are living in the Wake today of this man’s obedience and our human nature tends to
think of self first that’s why it’s so important to understand that your obedience is more than just about you
because we think of oursel first how is this going to affect me how is this going to change my schedule how’s this going to change my life this is going to interrupt my routine but as followers of
Jesus we have to recognize that our obedience is about more than just us it has a ripple effect into other people’s
lives when we choose to live a life of obedience and Joseph almost talked himself out of
it he almost left have you noticed this like most people respond I know I’ve responded sometimes with an excuse when God calls
me Moses god comes to Moses Moses you’re going to be this great communicator Moses I have a speech impediment are you sure you’re calling the right guy I’m
not really the one for this job and eventually Moses snaps out of it and is a part of a great Exodus freeing people
from slavery goes God goes to Gideon Mighty Man of Valor Gideon’s like whoa whoa whoa
weakest in my family our tribe is is the lowest we read Gideon finally trust God
and used him mightily but we often think what disqualifies us is the very thing that God wants to use you’re going to try to disqualify yourself your past is
going to try to disqualify you people are going to try to disqualify disqualify you but our world has been changed with people just like
you our world is different the stories that we are preaching the stories that we hear in scripture are people just like you and me living lives of
obedience saying God send me God here I am I’ll say yes I don’t understand I’ll go for
it don’t fight the interruptions that God wants to do in your life don’t wait for full understanding before you respond with
obedience there’s too much at stake there’s too much at stake to let fear back us in a corner church God has
put you on the planet for such a time as this and he is inviting you into a story
he has written a story for your life for our church for your
family and are we going to accept the invitation or are we going to talk ourselves out of it some of you in the room have a story
like Joseph where you felt to take a leap and you did and you trusted God and God has
blessed you share your story there’s people in our church that
are learning how to trust God right now they’re learning what it means to follow Jesus and you’ve been following Jesus for 40 years make sure you deposit some
of that down there’s a generation I see them every single Thursday night in our youth ministry and they are asking big
questions they they they they are asking big questions big Faith questions Big Life questions you know what gave me confidence as a
Young Man hearing other people’s story that have gone before me there’s a young person that you can encourage in our church there is a child that you can go
encourage in our church and share your story this is what God did in my life we had nothing but he provided this is what God did in my life I was sick and he healed me this is what God did in my
life be obedient to that prompting when God asks might be someone in here that just feels feel called it’s time to serve and
this is your step of obedience be obedient to that because your obedience has a ripple effect into other
people’s lives some of you have been talking yourself out of things for too long and today I think God is inviting
you again and he’s saying this is the life you really want and he’s saying this is the life
that you really dream of this is what you want for your family this is what you want for your legacy to be in the plan of
God Proverbs 29:25 the fear of man brings a snare but
he who trusts in the Lord will be exalted don’t let the fear of man don’t let what other people say about you
their opinions about you don’t let that stop you from doing what you know in your heart to do because when you trust
God you will be exalted you will be
exalted Matthew 1:24 it’s kind of how the story ends that we just read when Joseph woke up
after the angel of the Lord had appeared to him he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and he took Mary home
as his wife Joseph was obedient once again Joseph didn’t just like the message
of what the angel had to say like Hey Joe you’re going to usher in the savior of the world he’s going to forgive all people from their sins he didn’t just
like the message of it he submitted to the method that God wanted he wanted to use him and there’s there’s there’s messages
that we hear all the time and can I just tell you that it is the method that God wants to use you it’s the method on how
God wants to do it that leads to the blessing that leads to the health that leads to the purpose in our life lives like let’s not just like the message of
a blessed life let’s submit to the method of what it means to live a blessed life and that is to be a blessing to others and to live a
generous life let’s not just like the message of being in the family of God but let’s submit to the method of what
it means to be in the family of God and let’s care for one another and let’s pray for one another and let’s serve one another and let’s show up for one another and let’s love one another and
let’s build together and let’s fight together let’s submit to the method as well let’s not just like the let’s not just like
the message of going out and reaching the world and making a difference with your life that all feels good that all sounds good but I think Heaven is
looking over down the the banister of heaven and is wondering is there anyone that’s going to submit to the method is there anyone that’s going to get out of their comfort zone is there anyone
that’s going to rise up and say yes God send me is there anyone that’s going to go out and preach and share the good news of the Gospel is there anyone
that’s going to talk about what God has done in my life how he’s changed me how he showed up for me his grace for me how he forgave me how he pulled me out of
the pit is there anyone like that we got to submit to the method we got to submit to the method
and on this day the method was Joseph I know you don’t fully understand but I need you to
trust me and we go throughout our week Monday through Saturday and God’s looking who’s
submitted to the method who’s submitted to how I want to do things in your life this
week and when you walk in that you experience fulfillment you experience a joy you experience a purpose you
experience real life the Abundant Life that Jesus came to you experience all of those things when you give of yourself and you
say I’m obedient I trust God inconvenience is not going to get in my way I don’t fully understand but that’s that’s
okay that’s where we want to be if you’re in the room and you’re saying man I I I’ve I’ve talked myself
out of some things I I God has been prompting me I know I need to have that convers I know I need to forgive that person I know I need to you fill in the blank I believe
the holy spirit is speaking to people right now in all of our locations but you’ve been talking yourself out of some things I want to pray for you right now
every head bowed every eye closed if that’s you you’ve been talking yourself out and God’s been inviting you back in today just lift your hand if that’s you
amen hands all over this Auditorium I know in other auditoriums as well father you see every hand God that hand
represents a willing individual saying God use me a willing person saying God I want to
be used by you I don’t want inconvenience to shine me away God I don’t want to I don’t want to stop the thing that you were trying to advance me
into so father right now as your church God we say that we trust you God we say that we trust you God we say that you
can use us God we want to be that City on a Hill God we want to be that church that is strong that is moving forward father so I just pray that not just
corporately but individually that you would use every single one of us this week in a very Mighty way God when you prompt we will say yes God when you call
we will respond father we want we desire to be obedient to what you have asked of us to do how you want us to live because
we know that it brings you glory brings you glory that’s our heart’s desire it’s to
bring you glory Jesus in Jesus name in Jesus name every head bowed every eyes still closed at

want to live I want to give you an opportunity to say Yes again I want to give you an opportunity to receive new
life and forgiveness in a hope in a future and if you’re in the room and that’s resonating with you any of our rooms you want to say yes to Jesus today
