Out of Order
February 9, 2025
In Out of Order, Dr. Manny Arango explores how chaos, anxiety, and brokenness in our lives are often the result of living out of God’s divine order. Using personal stories, cultural insights, and biblical principles, Dr. Arango reveals that true peace, purpose, and fulfillment come when we align our lives with God’s intended sequence, hierarchy, and boundaries. Drawing on Genesis 1 and the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4, he teaches that disorder in relationships, family, finances, and spiritual life leads to chaos, but God’s order produces stability, peace, and spiritual growth. Dr. Arango also addresses the effects of fatherlessness, spiritual mentorship, and surrogate relationships, showing how structured guidance, discipline, and accountability are essential for navigating life successfully. He emphasizes the critical distinction between living water and temporary, broken wells of human validation, demonstrating that only God can satisfy the soul’s deepest questions about worth, love, and identity. This message challenges listeners to reject chaos, adopt God’s order, and embrace boundaries in marriage, family, and spiritual life. Out of Order is a practical, faith-filled guide for anyone seeking emotional, relational, and spiritual restoration. Through actionable principles and biblical insights, believers will learn to live with purpose, receive God’s living water, and create wells of blessing that flow into the lives of others.

Key Scriptures
Genesis 1:1–2 – In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
Leviticus 14:5 – Then the priest shall order that one of the birds be killed over fresh water in a clay pot.
Psalm 23:2–3 – He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
Matthew 3:13–17 – Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Glad you’re here. I’m honored that you were… clap for me. But come on, anybody grateful to King Jesus this morning? Can anybody acknowledge… come on, your alarm clock didn’t wake you up this morning, but the Breath of God woke you up this morning. Come on! God, we thank You, we praise You. Anybody believe?
Well, I… I was just in worship and thinking about this: thank God that He inhabits the praises of His people. Anybody grateful He does inhabit your joy? And sometimes He’d be homeless if He inhabited your joy! Come on, sometimes we got joy, sometimes we don’t. Anybody glad He doesn’t inhabit your peace? Sometimes He’d have a home, sometimes He wouldn’t. He doesn’t inhabit your holiness. Thank God He doesn’t inhabit your holiness, but He inhabits the one thing that’s always in your control: your praise. Come on! Praise is a decision of the will. God, thank You that You inhabit the praises of Your people. So come on, we praise You, we worship You, we magnify You. Praise isn’t a feeling—it’s a decision that I make. God, we love You.
Let’s pray: God, we thank You that You’re in the room. We thank You that You inhabit the praises of Your people. So You’re here, Your joy, Your peace, Your holiness is here because You inhabit the praises of Your people in Your church. And so God, here’s our prayer today, same as Samuel’s prayer: “Speak, Lord, for Your servants are listening.” God, we don’t want anyone to leave today saying, “Man, that guest speaker did a good job.” No! We want everyone to leave saying, “The Holy Spirit spoke to me in a unique, powerful, precise way.” So God, would You say what only You can say? Would You soften our hearts, open our eyes, open our ears to hear? God, would You give us ears to hear? We love You. We give this next portion of the service to You. And God, we ask that You would speak to Your people today. And God, we’re so glad we get to gather in Your house with Your people. God, we love Your church, God, we love You. In Jesus’ name we pray. We all say together: Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen.
You can high-five your neighbor, tell them they look good—even if they don’t—and grab a seat. Uh, I’m so excited to be at what I think is one of the dopest churches in America. Do you love your church? Come on, do you love your church?
I’m super, super excited to be here on Super Bowl Sunday. This is where the real Super Bowl’s happening, okay? I love your pastor so dearly—come on, do you love PK? I love Pastor Kevin, love you so much! I believe in the apostolic grace that’s on this church, and I’m glad I get to be part of the family and network of churches that are part of your church. I can honestly say—anybody know this about other people? My life has gotten better because I’ve been around Pastor Kevin. Anytime I come preach here, it doesn’t feel like another church—it feels like I’m home with family.
Maybe you’ve heard me before: anybody like, “I know exactly who Manny Arango is”? Awesome. Good to be home. For the rest of you wondering, “Who’s that handsome black man?” I don’t know who he is. My name is Manny Arango, and I’m honored to be here. I come from the great country of Texas, okay? I left 80° weather to come to Seattle, so you know it’s real. I love y’all.
We just moved to Houston a month ago because we’re planning on planting a church. We just moved to Houston. I’ve been living in Dallas for the last season of my life. I’m super excited, nervous, scared, but full of faith. Anybody ever been in a season where you’re nervous, scared, but faith isn’t the opposite of fear? Fear is actually a part of faith. You know you’re in faith when you’re scared out of your mind because you realize you’re not dependent on your own skills or gifts—you need God to show up. If God doesn’t show up, I really don’t know what would happen.
I was a youth pastor for 10 years—10 years. Woo! Serve my time, got out of there. The smell of Axe Body Spray is still permanently seared into my nose hairs. The number one issue I dealt with as a youth pastor? Anxiety. Every student in some way, shape, or form was impacted—panic attacks, anxious parents, anxious friends. Anxiety became the constant outside of identity.
I thought the solution to anxiety was peace. I did altar calls every Wednesday, prayed for peace, heartfelt prayers. They would get peace on Wednesday, half peace on Thursday, a quarter by Friday. By Sunday, it was gone. I felt like Chick-fil-A with free refills of peace—just an endless cycle. Then God began to show me: anxiety is chaos, and God’s solution to chaos isn’t peace—it’s order. Peace is a byproduct of order. Reject God’s order, and you reject the capacity for His peace.
I taught young people that when you put things out of order, they will inevitably become broken. Like a vending machine: out of order means it will not work. Reject God’s order, and you will experience chaos in relationships, finances, and spiritual life.
Order is sequence and hierarchy. Some disdain hierarchy, but God is a God of order—even angels are in hierarchy. Reject God’s order, and peace eludes you. Accept God’s order, and the fruit of stability, peace, and purpose flows.
I also had to teach single mothers: submit children to spiritual leadership. Reject chaos, accept order. Church is family, yes—but it’s also an army. We must march in alignment with God’s order to overcome the enemy and accomplish His purpose.
Order is about relationships, discipline, and alignment with God’s design. Fatherlessness creates predisposition to chaos. Statistics show suicide, poverty, anxiety, and incarceration spike when fathers are absent. Order matters.
I worked to bring structure into lives, teaching youth to embrace God’s guidance. Spiritual fathers are necessary to bring order, wisdom, and discipline, even when it challenges comfort zones. Chaos cannot be blessed. Structure and submission to God’s design are essential to receiving His peace and fulfilling purpose.
At my wedding, I realized my mother had a complicated relationship with me because of surrogate spouse syndrome. My mother had spousal-level expectations of me because my father wasn’t present. So when I got married, her expectations conflicted with my wife’s role. My therapist explained: boundaries are essential. I had to learn to separate my covenant with my wife from the chaos of my family of origin.
Boundaries create freedom. Creation in Genesis shows God bringing order out of chaos. Without boundaries, life is like a swamp—bacteria, death, stagnancy. A river, with boundaries, produces life. Spiritual and relational order works the same way. Following God’s design for marriage, family, finances, and relationships brings peace.
Men and women’s souls ask different questions. Every woman asks: “Am I lovable, and who will love me?” Every man asks: “Am I worthy, and how will I prove it?” Disappointment is cumulative when these questions go unanswered. Jesus meets these unmet needs. John 4:1-30 shows the Samaritan woman receiving Living Water—moving water, not stagnant water—symbolizing God’s ability to bring life, identity, and value.
Living Water restores identity and purpose. Wells in your life—marriage, friendships, community—cannot sustain you without first receiving Living Water from God. You cannot rely on human affirmation, wealth, or performance. Baptism shows God declaring your worth and love. Jesus transforms broken identity into order, enabling relationships, families, and churches to thrive.
Receive God’s Living Water first. Accept Jesus as Lord. Embrace boundaries, hierarchy, and spiritual order. Chaos will remain unless submitted to God’s authority. When aligned with His design, your life, marriage, and community function as God intended.
If you just prayed that prayer for the first time, or the first time in a long time, we welcome you into the family of God. We want to connect with you, give you a Bible, and help you start this journey. God wants to walk with you in His order, in His authority, and in His Living Water. Your life can be transformed when you submit to Him as Lord, not just Savior.
Celebrate the people who made the decision to follow Jesus today. If you lifted your hand, we see you. God sees you. This is the beginning of your new life. Walk in the freedom and boundaries God has set, receiving His Living Water so that every well in your life—marriage, family, friendships, and community—functions as He intended.
Church, it’s not just about being saved; it’s about being made new in order. God doesn’t just want to fix the chaos outside; He wants to bring order to the chaos inside. When you align with His design, the walls of your life become solid. You can thrive in peace, purpose, and identity.
Your story doesn’t end in the dysfunction of your past. Your story begins in the Living Water Jesus offers. Receive it, walk in it, and then you can pour into the lives of others. The wells you influence will be filled because you’ve been filled first. Church, go and tell your community about the goodness of God. Go and show them the Living Water. Go and be a reflection of the One who brings order out of chaos.
Amen. Amen.
