The Gospel of the Kingdom Part 1

April 2, 2023

Why did Jesus tell His followers to "do this in remembrance of Me"? In this powerful Palm Sunday message, Pastor Kevin Gerald unpacks the biblical significance of remembrance by connecting the story of the Passover in Exodus with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Discover how the Exodus wasn't just Israel's story—it was a prophetic picture of the Gospel and God's plan to deliver every person from sin, fear, and spiritual bondage. Through passages from Exodus, Deuteronomy, 1 Corinthians, and the teachings of Jesus, this message reveals why remembering God's faithfulness is essential to living a victorious Christian life. When we forget God's goodness, we lose perspective. When we remember His promises, His provision, and His sacrifice, our faith is strengthened, our hope is renewed, and our future becomes clear. If you're looking for biblical teaching on the Passover, the meaning of communion, understanding the Gospel of the Kingdom, Christian encouragement during difficult seasons, or practical ways to strengthen your faith, this message will deepen your understanding of God's redemptive plan. This Easter season, don't simply celebrate an event—remember the Savior. The same God who delivered His people from Egypt still delivers, provides, heals, and leads His people today through Jesus Christ.

I’ll be talking about that today and next week but I really today I wondered I thought
maybe I should just because every once in a while you guys know I’ll just say it’s Bible study day and we’ll do like a little more like
depth and you got to like really work to pay more attention and I try to get it out there and I enjoy doing that and I
almost decided I’m just going to announce that at the beginning of my message I’m not sure I want to do that it’s definitely more that way
today and and there’s going to be quite a bit of scripture get something if you can to write with
um if you’re serious about understanding God and understanding the gospel if you’re serious about understanding
Redemption and the story of God’s love for you today is going to really help you and it will be it will be for many
it will be just informative first time you’ve noticed or heard this and then for others it’s going to be a great refresher as I talk about some things
and and my subtitle like we’re going to talk about the gospel of the Kingdom but my subtitle today is simply remembering
the Lord remembering the Lord everybody say my heart’s open my mind’s ready make me better God
by Your Word I receive it I believe it I’m glad I’m here I’m all
here in Jesus name we’re going to begin in First Corinthians 11 the Apostle Paul reflects
back on the night that Jesus and his disciples had gathered to observe Passover
they gathered to observe Passover just remember that so it says the Lord Jesus on the night that he was betrayed he
took bread and when he had given thanks he broke it and he said this is my body everybody say this is my body
which is for you this new in remembrance of me and in the same way after supper he took
the cup and he said this cup is the New Covenant in my blood
do this whenever you drink it in remembrance
of me remembering the Lord
remembering the Lord now most people don’t realize that the book of Exodus is a prefiguration of the story of Jesus
being sent to Earth like even if you have been around maybe as a child a Sunday school class you saw The Parting of the
Red Sea maybe you watch the movies the Red Sea parts and all the fascination involved in the Journey of the the the
people of Israel to the promised land and and Moses who didn’t want to go and God said I need you to go and Moses
finally goes and and and and he goes as a as a leader to lead God’s people to
Freedom they were in bondage they were in slavery and so like Moses was sent by God to Egypt to set God’s people free
and to bring God’s people out of every form of bondage and into freedom
we have the background or we have the pre-figuration of the story of Jesus
being sent to Earth and to better understand the gospel of the kingdom it helps to go back to the story of The Exodus
it’s famous it’s widely known and both Jewish and Christian faith have our history
in The Exodus all right so I want to begin in Exodus 1 verse 8.
I want I want to go to The Exodus chapter 1 verse 8 and it reads like this now there arose a new king
which was Pharaoh or a new Pharaoh over Egypt who did not know Joseph
there arose a new king who did not know Joseph so maybe you’ve wondered well when
you’ve heard about Israel being in captivity in Egypt in the promised land journey and all that maybe you wonder well how did they get there why why did
that they were not prisoners of War like many people would assume like they they didn’t they didn’t get captured and
brought there the reason that they were there I want to explain it to you but the Exodus
basically let me say this verse The Exodus became necessary because an Egyptian king or Pharaoh made
a massive mindless mistake of disconnecting himself
and his Nation from the blessings of God
that had come through a man named Joseph
you remember the story of Joseph you remember at least parts of it sold by his brothers ends up in Egypt like sold
to a caravan of slave Traders he ends up in Egypt and then God
through Joseph saved Egypt saved Egypt basically from a severe
famine now we I just want to I want to go more there
but trying to keep moving the point is that they
did a lot and they owed the god of Joseph a lot
and this verse says there arose a new king over Egypt
who did not know Joseph now likely this new Pharaoh would not have even been alive
were it not for God’s favor on Joseph’s life
and Joseph who was an Israelite under the worst of circumstances became
a beloved leader in Egypt leading them to Great prosperity
and the years of great abundance in fact to the point where many of the
surrounding Nations moved to Egypt to live in this land
of blessing but remember none of it would have happened if it were not for a
man named Joseph who God used to be a blessing in a nation where he was a foreigner and a
Slave remember when God’s blessing is on a person
not only is the person blessed but others around them are blessed
I call it the favor splash when favor hits somebody or is on
somebody like a like a waterfall of favor comes over a person’s life if you’re just anywhere in the vicinity
there’s going to be some splash there’s gonna be some things come off of
your life when favor is on you that’s going to be a blessing to the people around you
so let’s hang out here for a minute because the Pharaoh did not know
so here we are years later there’s no gratitude there’s no remembrance
of how Joseph had been an absolute godsend Savior for their Nation
instead of living grateful and honoring the blessings
the pharaoh instead started to segregate
and Enslaved the Israelites and and that is how the Israelites
became slaves in Egypt because of pharaoh failed his history
test the failure to remember
is the embodiment of the problem people
forget God and they forget his goodness
this is why humans failed God and fail one another
it is because we forget the good we forget the blessing
we forget the benefits we forget what’s been done on our behalf
we forget what’s happened that allowed us to be where we are enjoying
what we have every generation
I’m telling you hear me when I tell you this every generation lives from its moment
forgetting what God’s done for them in their history and What the Lord Has Done in
Generations before them which is why you you young people young adults need to
spend a whole lot less time on social media and a lot more time
in their Bibles and in their history in fact you know
what’s happening today which is so strangers people are trying to literally go back and change history to match
their moment now that they want to set it up so the moment it’s all about the moment
and this is really the reason that our nation has lost its way today
is because people forget what should be remembered and they remembered what they should forget
our politicians are remembering what they should forget and they are forgetting what they should
remember our nation’s leaders our media Moguls our educators
they don’t know the faith of our founding fathers they walk through the corridors in Washington DC if you’ve never been
please go and just get a glimpse walk around and see what our forefathers stood for scriptures are everywhere
like everywhere there’s scripture on the Liberty Bell there’s scripture on the Statue of Liberty the scriptures all
around Washington DC on Halls of Congress and prayers are everywhere
and our nation is lost right now because it’s forgot what it should remember
there’s something like you just do better to forget Bible if you didn’t go through the Bible and make a study out of all the forgets
and all the remembers it’s all over the place I’m going to show you more today about the remembers but and and the and the forgets but it
just amazing like it’s like God gives us great prescription for
the the best life possible and it is like forget the things that are behind and press toward the things that are
before like I know that that guy didn’t treat you right and I know you went through this problem and I know you had this struggle but I need you to shift
your focus and I need you to look ahead I need you to look at what I’ve got planned for your life and for your future
and to experience God’s blessings you have to stop dwelling on the negative things in the past
you have to remember the good but you got to not
dwell on what went wrong and who did wrong and you can’t do that and have a productive
positive life or live out God’s plan for your life
back in your life and visit What the Lord Has Done I’ll help you out as we go along maybe
maybe help Inspire that a little bit but I can just assure you that the Lord has done great and many things for each and
every one of us who are here today that we so easily forget
look at somebody and tell them remember the Lord tell the other person next to you don’t
forget what you need to remember
okay let’s go to a Exodus 12. so I was in Exodus 1 the Pharaoh forgot all right
did you forget about Exodus one the the Pharaoh forgot Joseph
or he forgot to take his history lesson Exodus 12 God heard the Cry of the
people in slavery and he sent Moses to lead God’s people out of Egypt
we’ve got a picture of a father putting blood on the doorpost
three corners of the door and here’s why because Moses instructed the fathers of the house
to choose a lamb and then sacrifice it and capture its blood in a basin
and then to take hyssop which was a weed if you just think strands of something that would if you
hold a few strands this kind of becomes like a brush take his up dip it in the basin
and then lastly they were instructed to place the blood on the door of their home on the top post and both
sides not not not underneath it’s it was too holy or sacred at that
point that they would step over it but they were to put it on all sides
of the door of their home sprinkle that blood on there and then lastly
Moses told them that the Lord says when you’ve done that stay in the house sometimes I say stay in the house
let me let me hang out here for a minute it was the fathers that God gave the responsibility to
it wasn’t the moms it was the fathers and it was just that clear it was that
specific the fathers were told Mark your house
Mark your family fathers make sure your house
remembers the Lord
if we’ve ever needed fathers to step up it’s now
it’s one of those things that was the order of God that’s gotten all messed up over time because people don’t remember
the Lord so so the order people don’t like it Peter people fuss about it people get in needless
unnecessary arguments about it and it doesn’t diminish the value of a woman or a wife
it just sets up an order and in the order God established the father is to be the the leader he is to create
a place and a space to lead his family and our children today
need fathers who will care for them who will hold them
come on dad come on dad don’t let what they say
don’t let what they say undermine your understanding of who you are
and don’t allow what they say to cause you to back away and back I know I know I understand I
get it like we’ve been we’ve been like told everything we do wrong and everything that we shouldn’t do and you
got to go to Lamaze class and you’ve got to go to you you got to go to baby class and uh you got to get all your appropriate
proper cause you’re you’re just a little too you’re a little too masculine I know
there’s been in many cases a successful feminization and the castration of men
don’t let them if you’re a young man here don’t don’t let what they say
cause you I saw something funny the other day I think this is hilarious because it’s how the world works okay
um in fact somebody somebody shared this with me told me where to go look at it but they they said that recently there’s
a new voice in women women are now saying that because of the women movements
and some of the a lot of the accusations being brought against men
and that that men have become much more like like hesitant
to speak up to to flirt
men you know of course this is single men but there’s a whole lot of single women
that are starting to complain about how mild-mannered men are and they’re saying like I have to make
all the moves and I have to do all the well hello we’ve been telling men
for the last 15 20 years that that their aggression
is evil obviously I’m not giving license to something inappropriate I’m just saying
you can’t you can’t Bridle a man’s Manliness and expect him to still be his assertive
self that God created him to be you got to let a man be a man
and our children need men who are men men who will feed them correct them yes change their diaper
but keep them in the house tell them when to be home
tell them where they can and can’t go ride with them in the car talk to them about their life
men that will live with a vision that your children will be saved
so the blood of the Lamb was applied to the doorpost why to Mark the house when the plague
came so that the angel of death would know to pass over
to what to say it out loud to do what to pass over that house
and that house was protected that house was provided for and they were told by Moses eat the
entire meal of the Lamb the herbs the bread stay in the house until morning
and then make sure your clock your your cloak is tucked in make sure your cloak is tucked in
and make sure your staff is in your hand and tonight don’t take your sandals off during the night keep your sandals on
your feet why because in the middle of the night Pharaoh after the angel of death had passed over pharaoh who had been so
resistant and so tyrant to the Israelites pharaoh Called Moses up not really but imagine
with me he like said get over here to the palace and get out of here and get
all those people out of here and then here’s what I think is funny get out I don’t want you in Egypt no more we can’t
take any more of this these plagues that are here that are on us just leave
and as you go will you speak a blessing I love that part
where you speak a blessing on me and when you speak a blessing you know there comes a time when people understand
it may not be easy it may not be now for stubborn people it might take longer but there comes a time when P the Bible says
someday every knee is going to Bow every tongue is going to confess that Jesus is Lord
okay I gotta I gotta I gotta hurry here for 3 000 years people have celebrated the Passover
think about that longer than Christmas three thousand years families gather and
eat the Passover meal everybody say Passover
they do it remembering that the Lord was with them and for them
they do it remembering that the Lord provided away when there wasn’t a way
they do it and God told us to do it why because he knows that we are prone to
forget and it’s one thing to forget your anniversary good luck husbands if that
happens but or forget your husband’s birthday that’s one thing that’s not good
then the Lord knows I’ve forgotten some things that I’d be embarrassed to tell you I forgot but one thing for sure while you may forget a lot of things in
life God’s not one of the things that you want to forget
so so as soon as God the morning came Barrel like get out of here they had
their sandals on and they’re often going and the story becomes so beautiful the ins and outs of the story
and again it’s a type of us and Jesus as the Moses that came are you tracking with me
as soon as God brought them out of Egypt he began to emphasize to them to remember what he had done for them
and I want to read I want to read three settings in Deuteronomy so we’ve been in Exodus the next book of the Bible is
Deuteronomy all right everybody okay you with me so let’s read this as
something written to us that’ll make it more even appropriate and helpful here’s what God told them they’re leaving
they’re out they’re on their way out of where they were on their way to a better life and God says only be careful
Deuteronomy 4 9 only be careful and watch yourselves I like that watch yourselves closely so that you do
not forget the things your eyes are seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live teach them to your children
and to your children after them now how many of you know some bad stuff that happened to them in Egypt right and
he’s basically saying what I need you to remember right things that you have been set free
from things that you have been delivered from over in Deuteronomy 6 says when when the Lord your God brings you into
the land he swore to your father’s Abraham Isaac and Jacob to give you a land a lamb with large flourishing
cities that you did not build houses filled with all kinds of good
things that you did not provide Wells you did not dig Vineyards in Olive
Groves you did not plant think about that you’re gonna you’re gonna move into a
place and you’re going to inhabit a land and blessings that you did not create
then when you eat and are satisfied be careful that you do not forget the Lord who brought you out of Egypt and out of
the land of slavery look at somebody and say don’t forget
next one one more Deuteronomy 8 says be careful this is God again talking to them on their way and let’s receive it
as if it’s us be careful that you do not forget the land your God the the Lord your God failing to observe his commands
his laws his decrees that I’m giving you this day otherwise when you eat and you are
satisfied when you build fine houses and settle down when your herds and your flocks grow large and you’re silver and
your gold increase and all that you have is Multiplied your heart will become here
here hear me America your heart will become proud
and you will forget the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt out of the land of slavery
but verse 18 I think it is remember the Lord your God for it is he who gives
you the ability to produce wealth you don’t go to work without God having
you the ability to go to work and through that he confirms his
Covenant which she swore to your ancestors as it is today
don’t forget don’t forget to remember
do you get the message here I like that one that one part be careful
watch yourself watch yourself
because it’s easy to forget it’s easy to think you’re your own source
it’s easy to think that it’s all on you and about you and because of you it’s easy when you’ve gone from
something from from nothing to something
to forget how you got there to forget where you were
to forget that there was a time when you had to walk everywhere that you went when you didn’t have a job
when you didn’t have enough to rent your own place and then you went from renting an
apartment to a bigger apartment you went from wondering how you’re going
to go to college to being able to go to college get your education
you went from riding a bus to having a car and then the two cars and some of you
much more you went you went from
where you were to the next level to the next level
somebody put a word in for you just just in your mind just oh I got a
favor no no no remember the Lord somebody opened the door remember the
Lord you worked hard you didn’t think anybody noticed and then you got that promotion
remember the Lord you felt like there was no way you were
going to be able to move your life forward that you were in trouble you had to file bankruptcy you had to sell
everything you have and look at you now you didn’t get here and recover on your
own remember the Lord and What the Lord Has Done For You
can I can I have a can I have a few more minutes I’ve been I take it anyway but I’ve not been behaving as much on the
clock since uh uh 2020 when we came back to church so so
I wanna I wanna just Loop it together if you’re a new Christian or you’re unaware you I need to do this for you
because you may wonder what’s important to know why is it important to know about the Passover well first let me just tell you that God
made an Everlasting Covenant it’s in Jeremiah 32 it’s many times but I love this one he he said I will not turn away
from doing good to them we have an Everlasting Covenant no matter what we do where we’ve been God
said I will not turn away from them hence the gospel of the Kingdom
the gospel of the kingdom is the good news that God
has sent his son to bring us out of our own forms of Egypt
to lead us into New Life and in the same way that
he led his people out of Egypt into Freedom he leads us today
The God Who provided for his people in the wilderness is the same God now
The God Who met and supplied needs for them is the same God now
he put up with their complaining he put up with he was angry with them and they stayed
in the desert but he wanted them to get through the Wilderness a lot quicker than they did but he didn’t turn his back on them
he kept making sure there was Manna on the ground he kept making sure he was providing for them
First Corinthians 5 says that Christ is our Passover
First Corinthians 5 says Christ Our Passover was sacrificed
for us
thank you so back to our text
the Last Supper remember I was there 30 minutes ago on that night it says on the night that
Jesus was betrayed sat down to remember the Passover
and his message title was basically don’t forget to remember
and here’s what he said he said he he gave a new called the New Covenant
he said from now on like when you do this you do it in remembrance of me
my body broken is your strength and sickness my blood
is your freedom from sin My Sacrifice
is your salvation and don’t forget to remember
as often as you do this do it to remember
so some of y’all may not you may wonder you may not connect all the dots you may not yet and that’s okay no shame on that
but when you hear us sing songs about the blood of Jesus this is what we’re talking about
the blood on the doorpost caused the the angel the angel of death to pass over
and the blood of Jesus saves you from Eternal death
and gives you life here and in the age to come
when you hear us sing like I I I go back in my own life
there’s this old course it says what can wash
away my sin
some of y’all remember that like you remember that
what can make me hold again
nothing but the blood of trees
foreign
see we’re remembering we’re remembering we’re remembering his goodness
we’re remembering his promises I didn’t make this story up
you might have wrote it a different way but the god of the universe
so loved the world that he gave his only son
and you and you put it all together the lamb that sustains they went in the strength of the Lamb
out into the wilderness the lamb that sustains you the lamb that
provides for you is remembering simply I will never leave you
I will never forsake you this Holy Week that we’re in right now is the greatest opportunity
to dwell into focus on the idea that he said I will be with you always I will be with you
always it means that right now
2023 and whatever problems you face and whatever chaos that you have and whatever questions you don’t have answer
I will be with you I will be with you always
fever some of you God’s calling you back to him right now there’s some of you that God is reminding you today of his goodness in
your life you’ve had way too much focus and thought on what you don’t have what you wish you had what this didn’t happen
and that didn’t happen that was wrong and that’s not just right and today the holy spirit is calling us back to what really matters and that is
that no matter what somebody else says or no matter what somebody else did no matter no matter what’s going on around you that there’s this thing I’m I’m
calling you to in obedience to God We’re Not Gonna forget when the dark days come we’re not going to forget when we feel
alone we’re not going to forget when we feel alone that we are not alone we’re not going to forget that the Lord God is our
provider and that he is our healer come on that he is our Glory that he is
our Salvation that he is the lifter of our heads can somebody clap your hands
and thank the Lord today
the good news is that today is somebody’s day of salvation a promise in the hope of Salvation has
come to you it’s come to your house it’s come to you father come to your mother
it’s come to you young man who has been confused about life young woman who’s been looking for love
in all the wrong places the good news is that today is your day of salvation and today is your day that God appointed for
an opportunity to come into a new life a life of Hope the Bible says this if you confess with
your mouth then believe in your heart you will be saved
you will be saved you will be saved it doesn’t matter where you came from it doesn’t matter
your background it doesn’t matter about your family it doesn’t matter how old you are it doesn’t matter the color of
your skin if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart foreign
to facilitate that moment I just want to invite anybody that says this is my moment pastor Kevin raise your hand up in the air or raise two up in the air
and just say this is my day of new beginnings this is my day I want to get right with God I want to be in right
standing with the Lord I want to be a child of God see I’m not calling you to Perfection I’m calling you to just
remember the Lord today and remember what he thought come on and enter into the promises that he has for you
hands are up hands are up come on hands are up all over every house every location hold your hand up high and then
all of us let’s say it together say Lord Jesus welcome to my world I ask you today
to forgive me of all my sin come into my life come into my heart
and make me a new person today I remember
today I remember what you have done for me
and what you promised me and I receive right now my salvation
in Jesus name God bless you everybody who just prayed that prayer welcome to the family of God come on let’s
celebrate let’s celebrate Champion Center let’s celebrate New Beginnings today
