good morning good morning good morning well how many of you welcome the
outpouring of the holy spirit in your life and our land today come on in our church and our nation
I’m going to ask you to remain standing just a couple of minutes I want to make sure that I can dial in on a couple of
things I want to bring you uh and have you be mindful of first of all I want to honor those who have given their life
today for our freedom and I thought this was such a great expression of that earlier in our service so thank you to
our service team and the creative teams uh I I was getting emotional and I know many of you feel the same way but a
great big thank you from me to all of the families who are currently serving in our military who have served in the
past and especially those who have given giving up loved ones and relatives for our freedom today
thank you thank you thank you thank you so much and also I want to say that we’re going to have a great time on
Thursday night in Yakima Sheila and I are coming to Yakima we’re bringing some of the other team with us for tonight of prayer and worship and team talk with
our church family in Yakima can’t wait to be with you guys over there
thank you last Friday night was something called she gathers it was here in Tacoma this
next week it’s going to go to Bellevue Sheila some of the gals from the locations are talking real talk so ladies you can go to any of these by the
way we have them at locations but feel free to drive and and get in a carpool and go hang out next Sunday we kick off
our summer series called Summer in the Psalms we love summertime and and so
we’re just leaning into the summer and we’re leaning into the you may not know this but we have palm trees in uh in the
front of our Tacoma location here because we love summer and they don’t
really naturally grow here but they are a symbol of our love for palm tree Summerfield so we’re gonna just we’re
going to celebrate summer and lean into it in our church service it on the weekend and we’re going to go to the Book of Psalms and we’re going to have guests here and we’re going to have
interviews and we’re going to have teams speaking and I’m going to be speaking I’m going to kick it off next weekend so let’s go strong let’s give strong
everybody say give strong let’s give strong let’s not like let’s not while we’re absent on you know and and go on
vacation or whatever let’s keep supporting the church and the work of the Lord let’s make it an exceptional best summer ever this summer amen
amen amen amen okay you may be seated today I want to continue something I began a
few weeks ago we had a couple of breaks we had guest speaker I love the message last week I was ministering out last
week in one of our great friends uh Pastor Jason Warman from Florida he was here and he talked about
the gospel of permission and what a great message and this week I’m going to go back and I’m going to talk about his
Pentecost Sunday as we’ve already said and we’re gonna we’re gonna talk about the presence the purpose and the power
of the Holy Spirit everybody stay with me my heart’s open my mind’s ready make me better God
by your word I receive it and I believe it and I won’t be the same again in
Jesus name and everybody shout amen Acts chapter 2 verse 1
says when the day of Pentecost had fully come they were all with one Accord in one place with one Accord in one place
and suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a rushing Mighty Wind and it filled the whole house where they
were sitting and then there appeared to them divided tongues as a fire and sat upon each of them and they were all
filled with the Holy Spirit they were all filled with the holy spirit so these were Believers these were Believers in
Christ these were disciples these were people who were already evangelizing and sharing the gospel but
then came this promise and it became a reality they were all filled in what is called The Upper Room of the temple they were gathered there they were all filled
with the Holy Spirit they began to speak with other tongues as the spirit of God gave them utterance you can read the the
whole book of Acts as I said a few uh I think in my first my yeah my first
first part of the series I I mentioned the writer of the of the book of Acts is is Luke who was a very intelligent man
and I love that idea as I shared with you before um he was a Greek doctor he was not one of the 12 disciples and the reason I
loved that so much is a lot of times intelligent people really have a hard time accepting embracing welcoming this thing that we don’t understand
everything about that the Holy Spirit there’s always questions and so so our intelligence sometimes I say intelligent
maybe educated is a better word than intelligent because we’re all intelligent right but educated people sometimes the more classes you have the
more University stuff you deal with the more whatever you get the Bible says that knowledge puffs up and you know it fills us with pride
sometimes and we forget what you know that we don’t know everything and the best way to learn from God and grow in
God is to just continually be open and receptive and and ask God to teach us right and ask God and be humble about
that and and then we can we can learn what we don’t know whether we are educated Not educated um you know it’s just so so I love that
about the fact that when you read the book of Acts including Acts chapter 2 what I’m reading from right now it’s the recording of a very intelligent man who
was highly educated as a Greek doctor you gotta say I got it so then it says in verse 38
Peter who was this bold disciple of Christ stands up to begin to tell everybody what’s going on because it was like
spilling out of the upper room spilling into the streets people were praising God people were worshiping people were what what Bible expresses two times in
scripture talks about it equates the the filling of the holy spirit with drunkenness and and this is one of the
places where it does that in the book of Acts and and and later on the Bible says the writer says to us don’t be drunk
with wine we’re in a success but be filled with a spirit and the point is is that when you get drunk with alcohol you’ll do things potentially you regret
later you you potentially don’t know what you’re going to say what you’re going to do you’re going to make a fool out of yourself but when you’re filled
with the spirit you’re going to have some of the same things you know of joy and a little bit of the ability to rise above you know what you’re facing in
life and kind of be like yes and and everything good and like you’re gonna have a little bit of that going on in
you but it’s not it’s not going to put you in positions of compromising places where you do things you regret and so the Bible equates the infilling of the
holy spirit with drunkenness and so one of my point is that that’s spilling out in the streets people are praising God
people are speaking in tongues which this has never happened before and so it was really cray-cray and I know some of you right now it’s still cray-cray like
to you it’s like whoa that’s wild stuff that’s okay um as long as you just don’t push back and you realize this is Bible like this
is it says it and when the Bible says it we may not understand it but we believe it that settles it right so Peter stands
up to try to give some sort of you know explanation and he tells everybody that day repent and let every one of you be
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin and you will receive the gift of the holy spirit for the promises to you to your children and
to all who are are afar off even as far as into 2023
2024 2025 as many as the Lord Our God will call anybody called by God today you know
you’re called by God today right so he just gives this big open like hey
uh and and by the way a lot of Believers have gathered from different areas but also non-believers had
gathered because it was this Pentecost was 50 days after and he has celebrated 50 days after the resurrection of Christ
so that’s Pentecost it was originally based on a feast day A Feast time in Israel where people came together for
feasting and celebration but in this case the outpouring of the Holy Spirit happened and on that day 3 000 people
were baptized the church was born in an outpouring of the Holy Spirit
the early church was a Spirit-filled church I’m going to say that again the early
church was a Spirit-filled church if hand raising hand clapping
expressions of song and life and vitality bother you the early church was
a Spirit-filled church
they prayed in the spirit they sang in the spirit they were filled with the spirit
and ever since the book of Acts the Holy Spirit has been with the church
building the church working with us working in US growing us
strengthening us helping us succeed in God’s purpose and plan for our life
anybody thankful anybody appreciate the ever-present holy spirit in your life who is with you and
helping you so Acts 2 everything I just shared with
you the day of Pentecost was fully come all the events that happened the uh the outpouring of the Holy Spirit
the Apostle Peter preaching about it teaching throwing the door wide open to everyone it was actually the Fulfillment
of what Jesus Promised and that that was going to happen so if you go back in scripture and Jesus talking to his
disciples he was he was prepping them for that moment he was preparing them and he was constantly in John 14 is
where I’m going to go for the rest of my message and I’m going to give you a couple of verses and just teach from that but but I want you to know that he
was constantly preparing them after his resurrection Jesus talked about two things he talked about the kingdom the
coming of the kingdom and he talked about the coming of the holy spirit so there were 40 days after the resurrection where Jesus had appeared to
his disciples two things he focused on the coming of the kingdom and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit why
because he wanted he wanted them to know that when this stuff started happening it was really of him it was from Heaven he wanted them to understand that
although they had never experienced it before this was God’s plan and there was something really great happening that had already
been planned in how seven the blueprints were were created in heaven and he just wanted them to get ready everybody say
get ready come on say get ready tell your neighbor say get ready that was the whole point of him teaching
so much about the Holy Spirit to get them ready for Acts chapter 2 and the whole book of Acts and the future of the church
all right all of the writers of the New Testament were filled with the Holy Spirit the question was filled with all I mean I
could just go on and on like anyone who’s like like we’re not here to make you know to to
play some sort of a voodoo on you or some sort of a wee
spirit is I’m going to show you here I’m going to show you how practical the holy spirit is that doesn’t mean that people will
not respond in odd ways like like you know when when we’re cold like when my
wife is cold she gets kind I think she gets ridiculous like that’s just my opinion she doesn’t just say I’m cold
like she goes cool like last night we were at a baseball game for our grandson and and she got cold and I had to I had
to go all the way to the car find a blanket get back to her because she was ridiculously cold like she called well I
I was chilly too but you know what I’m saying we all respond differently

and actually now that I’m talking about my wife and I being different it’s not just when we’re cold like like we just respond to different things different
ways like if if something happens like like what I would call a an Emergency
my brain goes into you know action and like what do I do one two three four
she’s like and early in our marriage one time a
speaker a speaker fell on me like I was putting up a speaker in the church like a a sound speaker and I fell off the
ladder and the speaker fell on me God’s my witness I felt on my chat it looked horrible I know and there were a couple of people
standing around my wife like did a couple of laps around me
and and I told her later I’m like listen when something like that happens you gotta think like
foreign I could have been right then like breathing final breath broken ribs and
all that and need a 9-1-1 call like anybody know what I’m talking about
today like we we all a little different so my point is like don’t get judgmental
with the Holy Spirit to the point where you’re you know you’re just not allowing for individual expressions and
personality at the same time like we’ll be quick in our church to say you know you you don’t interrupt
fact the Bible teaches you know with some weird thing and take over the church and you know like you everything’s decent everything’s in
order right and so we we believe that the Holy Spirit doesn’t force you to do anything
the Holy Spirit doesn’t make you do anything the Holy Spirit we like to say is a gentleman like he he he moves on us
he fills us but he’s here to help us can you shout amen so John 14 I will ask the father Jesus
said and he will give you another helper to be with you forever he’s preparing them the helper is the spirit of Truth
the people of the world cannot accept him because they don’t see him or know him but you know him
he lives with you and he will be in you others don’t know him others don’t know about the Holy Spirit but just remember when you’ve been taught about the Holy
Spirit just remember that you know who he is and then he says I love this and
this is where I’ll Focus today on the last 15 20 minutes he says I will not leave you all alone like orphans I will
come back to you so this is Jesus saying I’m asking the father he’s going to give you another helper
to be with you forever the helper is the spirit of Truth and then he says I’m not going to leave you all alone like orphans I will come
back to you so there’s three things here about the Holy Spirit the first one I think I’m just going to give you all three number one the holy spirit is your
helper and the word for that is omnipotent he is all-powerful everybody say all powerful
he opens up doors you can’t he he strengthens you when you need it he is
all powerful number two the holy spirit is the spirit of Truth and the word there is omniscient that means he’s all-knowing and we’ll talk
about it some more here in a moment number three the holy spirit is with you forever those are three things Jesus taught
about the Holy Spirit as he prepared people to embrace receive be open to the Holy Spirit he said I’ll be gone but he
will come I’ll be gone physically gone but the father will send the holy spirit so let’s let’s talk about number one
let’s just talk about how the holy spirit is your helper how how he is all-powerful or omnipotent
and here’s what I want to say to you is that he is for you everybody say my helper
say it again my helper not a distant power not someone who’s against you not someone who’s there to criticize your
judge you bring you down the Holy Spirit the enemy would like you to think that because the holy spirit will sometimes and I’ll talk about it in a moment he
will sometimes work correction in our life but the holy spirit is for you so my question to you today is what do
you need what what do you need he is an advocate
a teacher he is a Waymaker
we have Alexis we have Siri
it’s a little bit of a similarity going on there I walk in my house at night and I talk to this other
woman named Alexis and I say Alexis
turn on the light and boom the lights pop on
I sometimes like Alexis and the time I don’t like Alexis is when
she doesn’t obey or she talks back
with things I don’t really want to hear because she overhears my conversation sometimes and that makes me upset
what are you listening in on like that’s a whole other story but
the holy spirit will open and close doors for you
the holy spirit will bring right people and he will also help you recognize wrong people
see everyone who is good to you is not good for you
and I’m thankful as a pastor that I’ve had the Holy Spirit to help me
to discern and to know and the vetting process is sometimes you
know it looks a little different but sometimes I’m just waiting to hear from the Holy Spirit
about people about a person about individuals who are in our world in our life who have come
close are they sent by God or they sent or they or are they sent to trouble us
are they sent to Sidetrack us and I I don’t always get it right but I am thankful because I think there have
been many times in my life when I I would not have known people except by the Holy Spirit
who’s giving me discernment and he will do the same and he wants to do the same for you
he doesn’t want you connected to the wrong people he wants you connected to the right people and you may have to go through five wrong people before you
find the right people but it’s always better for you to be alone than to be with the wrong people
I I tell single people there is something worse than being single
it’s being married to the wrong person somebody
come on
you married people I’m gonna assume you’re clapping
is to encourage someone else to wait for the right person because you did but there’s some of you who aren’t even responding right now and I’m just going
to overlook you the Holy Spirit comes to help us see our
way Through The Dark Night we’re all we all have dark nights
and the Holy Spirit doesn’t always Shield you from Dark Nights the sun will not always shine it will not always be bright mornings
and easy days the holy spirit will sometimes like put night goggles on you
and say just keep walking just keep walking I’m going to help you through this
anybody ever had that anybody ever experienced that in your life so the holy spirit is our helper
the second thing is that the holy spirit is the spirit of Truth that that means omniscient like and and
this is basically all-knowing he knows beyond what we know his knowledge is beyond our knowledge
and and see if you can I try to get things practical to help you understand as much
as I can help you understand about God and things of God see see if this registers with you the holy spirit is
always on the side of Truth I just want you to think about this for
a moment the holy spirit is always on the side
of Truth when people lie about you he is on your side
now you may hear people say things like good good Christian people and believers who say
things like well they were sent in my life to give me a hard time to bother me to trouble me and there there’s some
truth that that is true I don’t want to say there’s some that there’s truth in that but they were not sent by God
God’s not on their side they were allowed by God but not sent by God
and the Holy Spirit stands by you oftentimes to witness your response
do you trust him do you look to him do you talk to him do you pray for help
he didn’t send them but he allowed them and when people are against you when
people cheat you he’s on your side he’s not on their side
lies are the enemy of truth and the Holy Spirit does not bless lives
when you walk in lies it might seem good for a while and you might get some feelings Euphoria
of Liars who have walking in the same lie clapping for you but just understand
that the the spirit the holy spirit is the spirit of truth and the Holy Spirit does not bless lies
Holy Spirit does not bless deception
so we want to be people of Truth because truth is where the Holy Spirit lives it’s the language of the Holy
Spirit and of course the Holy Spirit and the word or synonym
of the word of God the Bible are synonymous the holy spirit is the writer and the author of scripture if you ever wonder well
you know he said that the holy spirit’s leading him to tell me this but my Bible says this
go with your Bible if the Bible contradicts what somebody’s telling you you don’t go with that
person I don’t care if it’s your mom your dad your uncle your your your pastor your whoever it is you go with
you go with the word of God that’s where the holy spirit is
and we’re taught as Believers to speak the truth in love
speaking the truth is an act of love speaking the truth is an act of love and I got to say this because I I know we
all deal with a you know hesitation sometimes to just
talk about the truth and to speak the truth because we’re not sure someone will you know will will
receive it we might get ostracized because of that we might we might be penalized because of that so
we oftentimes will hesitate on speaking the truth and I just want you to understand that
we’re taught to speak the truth in love not speak lies in love and there’s a big difference and when
you oftentimes lean into the love thing you’re lying in what you call love make sure you
don’t compromise truth while you have love and why are you saying this about your
cousin because I I want us to honor the work of the Holy Spirit and the work of the holy spirit is is the spirit of Truth
I was watching uh some seven-year-olds play baseball my youngest grandson Cody and one of the things I love about
that age group is the dads who were out who are out there with their sons they’re on the field with their sons and they’re coaching them and they’re
teaching them and I just love watching it um and and here’s why because these dads like they
they are oftentimes doing this way to go way to go and and he just struck out
you’re gonna get them next time That’s my boy no they’ll rub their hand
on his head so they’re oftentimes encouraging and cheering but there’s another thing they do and that is
sometimes when their sons do something wrong like you know on the baseball field they threw it they threw it the wrong
direction they threw it to Third Base instead of the first base or they held onto the ball when they should have thrown the ball or they stayed at first and they should have kept running the
second and third or whatever dads will come along and I watch this over and over again that father will come along and he’ll kneel down in front of them or
he’ll lean over in front of them and they’ll say listen to me when you when you catch a ball like that like and you
a ground ball like that you’re gonna throw the ball next time you’re gonna throw the ball you’re not just gonna stand there and hold on to it like I
caught the ball like it’s not an out yet until you throw the ball I just love fathers who are there and by
the way I think just in a practical way fathers this is what our children need from us that Dad they don’t need you to just
scream at them like what’s wrong with you you know they don’t know yet they need their fathers to guide them
to help them and to do it with and through
encouragement right but the the imagery is also that of the
Holy Spirit when he speaks the truth into our life he doesn’t come like to just be against
you he comes to coach you because the truth about your health can save your life and when you need directions the truth
will get you to your destination am I right about that if you’re lost what do you need you don’t need some more goofy you know
direct you need accurate directions the best relationships and marriages and families and nations are built on truth
so so let me just ask everybody in a spirit in an age of many lives when’s the last time you expressed gratitude
for someone who told you the truth when’s the last time like you thank someone
who had the courage to just tell you the truth in a world that can be very confusing
in a world where there’s many voices when’s the last time that you were just so grateful and you honored the people
who risked you being upset with them mad at them or whatever it might be because
they told you the truth the Holy Spirit sends people into our lives
and speaks truth through people in our lives and thirdly
here’s here’s something I want you to just hear my heart on I the holy spirit is with you forever
he is omnipresent meaning he’s not limited by time and space he’s not limited by time and space
so like the air that you breathe or the water in the atmosphere the holy spirit is the ever present eternal spirit of God
and the last week or so I last few days as I was getting close to the weekend and preparing to speak to you today
there a song kept going over my mind and I went back and I started playing it and it became one of those repeats for me that I just been playing it throughout
the week and it goes like this it says I never walk alone we sing it here at the church I’ve never
been abandoned you are my inheritance
I know I didn’t start in the right key for you guys but it’s just because I have such a great voice and it’s way
more versatile oh oh you guys can’t do that I’m sorry
I’ll come back down I’m joking with you guys and it goes into it goes into yeah help
me out I’ve never been abandoned
confidence you go for
your life
alone
isn’t that beautiful
now you can you can feel the Holy Spirit when we sing and that song is that song is about the Holy Spirit
because he was there when
your dad left you that older kid took advantage of you or
that adult that teacher mistreated you those who trusted betrayed you
he was there somebody say he was there he was there when you were rejected by your peers
bullied by kids at schools and he knows about he knows about it he knows about it he was there when your
spouse cheated on you and you were so broken and alone
he was there somebody say he was there
this is the beauty of the holy spirit is he isn’t just in the moment or in the present he is also in your past
and he knows your family tree he knows the addictions in your family he knows
the addictions and habits in your in your father and your mother he knows
that when they abandon you he knows what they were dealing with emotionally and the way the enemy had worked in their
life and he knows all of that you know as you were suffering consequences for things that
you had no control over he knows that about you He’s Not only was there them but he is
also here now he knows who your enemies are right now
he knows who has it out for you it’s not fair
and he knows that he knows those of you who lost your job because you haven’t complied
with those who said you had to get a vaccine or you had to do certain things that were just against
your conscience and he he was there he was there and
he knows how you suffered because of that he knows the mental battle that you wake up to every day even when you don’t feel or sense his
presence what I’m telling you is he is never far away from you he is with you right now
I walked I walked into an airport our airport actually SeaTac a week ago and
it dropped me off at the front and I was traveling to speak and the person traveling with Pastor Chris up here was
was going to meet me at the gate and so I got out and I went into the airport and the airport it was a Saturday and the airport was so crowded like it was
unbelievably crowded people are traveling this would have been a week ago but people were traveling and I just shocked me and then as I went to go to
the air the air desk uh the the flight desk I had to bag I had to check in I usually don’t have to do that but I had
to check a bag in and and uh so I’m and they had changed the you know the airline had changed their desk all
around and so I couldn’t find the line that I was supposed to get in I couldn’t find it and I’m walking pulling a bag and my
other bag I’m walking around I’m trying so I stop and I asked one of the workers the the FL the airline
employer so what what what do I do like where is where’s that line that where’s this line and and she pointed I’m like that long line I have to get in that
long line I have to go get in that long line I’m going to miss my plane my plane leaves in less than an hour now
makes less than an hour and if I wait in that line I won’t get to my plane and I know and you know in their mind they’re like yeah you should have been
here earlier and you know whatever but I get it I get it but my point is there I was and and so I go to get in the line
and I at the back of this line knowing that wow this is feels really futile even to stay here right now but
hopefully something will happen and about that time and I I turn like this in an Asian man
with a with a red cap on is looking right at me and walking toward me and he said can I help you
and I turned and I said yes I’m confused
and I explained a little bit and and started to say if I stand on the line I’m going to miss my plane and I have to check the bag and he’s like follow me
and we we I just started following him and he walked down through the busy airport I mean it was so busy guys I fly a lot it was you know hitting shoulders
and I went outside and I started realizing he’s taking me outside to check my bag and outside the line is long out there too it’s massively long
and I’m walking toward that desk and there’s this huge long line I’m thinking of my head what is this going to do this
isn’t going to help me and then I see him go behind everybody that’s working at the desk he goes behind all of them
and come out on the other end and he’s waving come here come here and he he just like waves me all around the line
and brings me right up in front of him to the desk and he has a little workstation there and I I hand him my
my phone with the the tail on the phone and and and he starts typing and I promise you
it was so fast and I’m thinking this is wow he’s fast like and and these other people again
right beside me are in a line I’m thinking they’re probably mad right now and
that gentleman when he got done
he looks at me and he said pastor Kevin
I had no idea I thought I was just a man in the airport he said pastor Kevin I believe that the
Lord sent me in there to find you and to help you and he’s holding it out like this and
and the gentleman said this he said you help me and you help others and
today sir it is my privilege to help you
I was I was just stunned I didn’t say I didn’t ask no questions
like this is an angel from heaven it’s like of the Holy Spirit physical I don’t I’m just like other than thank you but as he
said that let me tell you something else that happened because in the last few years especially but always as a pastor you’re not sure when you’re in public you’re not sure who’s who’s mad at you
who’s angry who’s got some words for you you don’t really know and so I’m I’m always knowing that that’s the case some
people really love me and some people yeah yeah many people don’t and I’m always
aware of that and let me tell you what happened was really really I guess just put the icing on the cake it says I received that ticket and I’m thinking
these people have been in line they’re angry literally five feet away from me when he said you help others and it’s my
privilege to help you today this this lady one started it and it just went through the line yes you do yes you do
thank you so much I got like an ovation from a line
a line of strangers who I don’t know
what I’m telling you today I have no idea how it all happened
but I want you to know that he will be with you forever
there’s nowhere that you can go be seated just for a moment long there’s nowhere you can go that he’s not there
Don’t Fear the Future because he’s already there God goes before you he knows every
person you’re going to meet he knows the ones who are sent to harm you and the ones who are there to support you stand by you open doors for you and fight with
you everyone everyone understand what I’m saying to you today is that the holy
spirit is with us forever in the ugly in The Bad and The
Lonely in The Agony and the pain in the hurt he is with us
forever can we give the Lord a great big thank you

I know everybody
every every hour every day every game always been there
it is you go before
I want to encourage you today you’re a believer in Christ and you’ve never received this baptism of the Holy
Spirit I want to encourage you to begin to just get close and draw close by
talking to the Holy Spirit directly and welcoming the Holy Spirit and his presence into your life
inviting him to come fill you be with you I read a letter a couple of weeks ago one of our men in Bellevue who’s
known the Lord for many years and he shared with us how after I talked about that in his house the next Tuesday
morning as he’s worshiping the Lord he was baptized with the Holy Spirit and you know you’re saved if if you’re a
Believer you’re saved it’s not about something you have to have for salvation so to speak but it is a gift intended for everyone and there is power
in this gift that I would I would that all of you that our whole church would
receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit there’s going to be special times of prayer there’s going to be rally nights
Jesus told you know Jesus told his disciples he said I want you to go and wait in Jerusalem until you receive this
gift and we had about a hundred people that were filled with the Holy Spirit in Bellevue
on a on a special night recently and uh actually and that was in our
youth night and then we had another night where in Bellevue and there was one young lady named Misha she’s probably in Bellevue service today she
