Little By Little

Best Summer Ever | Consistency | Purpose
Little By Little

In this week’s message, Little by Little, Pastor Kevin reminded us of a truth that can be difficult to embrace in a world of instant results: God’s best work often happens gradually. While we may long for sudden breakthroughs, Scripture reveals that growth, maturity, and lasting success are often built one faithful step at a time.

If you missed the message, be sure to watch it and be encouraged by Pastor Kevin’s practical and powerful teaching. In the meantime, here’s a reminder for anyone who feels like progress is taking longer than expected.

The Best Things Happen Little by Little
If we’re honest, most of us don’t like waiting.

We like quick answers, immediate breakthroughs, and fast results. We want the direct flight, not the layover. We want the answer today, not next month. We want to see the finish line without having to run the race.

The Israelites weren’t much different.

After generations of slavery, they were finally on their way to the Promised Land. Surely this was the moment God would remove every obstacle overnight and hand them everything He had promised.

Instead, God told them:

“Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.” (Exodus 23:30)

It probably wasn’t what they wanted to hear.

But it was exactly what they needed.

There’s No Such Thing as Overnight Success
We often celebrate the breakthrough without seeing the process behind it.

A successful business, a strong marriage, a thriving ministry, a healthy family, a flourishing faith—none of these things happen overnight.

Everything worthwhile takes time.

The old saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” has endured because it’s true. Great things are built through consistent effort over long periods of time.

Strong relationships are built little by little.

Character is developed little by little.

Healing happens little by little.

Faith grows little by little.

What feels insignificant today can become significant over time. Small decisions, repeated consistently, create lasting impact.

Consistency compounds.

Little by little becomes a lot.

What Looks Sudden Was Usually Slow First
Sometimes we look at someone else’s success and assume it happened overnight.

We see the promotion, the achievement, the opportunity, or the breakthrough and think it appeared suddenly.

But most victories that appear sudden were actually slow before they were sudden.

Pastor Kevin shared the story of a baseball player who recently made his Major League debut after spending eleven years in the minor leagues. To everyone watching, it seemed like success happened overnight. One day he was unknown. The next day he was hitting a home run on baseball’s biggest stage.

But what looked sudden publicly had been developing privately for years.

The same was true for David.

David didn’t slay Goliath in a day. Long before the giant, there were years spent tending sheep, learning responsibility, developing courage, and practicing with a sling.

The hill with sheep prepared David for the valley with giants.

Many of us pray for promotion while resisting preparation. Yet God often uses hidden seasons to prepare us for future opportunities.

Prepare yourself and your day will come.

You Can Let Slow Stop You—or Grow You
One of the greatest tests of faith is the test of time.

When progress feels slow, it’s easy to become discouraged. We wonder if God is still working or if our efforts are making any difference.

But slow doesn’t mean stagnant.

Slow doesn’t mean forgotten.

Slow doesn’t mean God is absent.

Some of God’s most important work happens during seasons when growth feels gradual.

Trust is earned little by little.

Skills are developed little by little.

Wisdom grows little by little.

Healing comes little by little.

The habits we build today shape the future we’re praying for tomorrow.

Most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a day and underestimate what they can accomplish in a lifetime.

The same is true spiritually. Every prayer matters. Every act of obedience matters. Every step of faith matters.

God Grows Your Capacity Before He Enlarges Your Territory
Perhaps the most powerful insight from Exodus 23 is God’s reason for moving little by little.

God told the Israelites He would drive out their enemies gradually “until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.”

The issue wasn’t God’s ability.

The issue was their capacity.

God was preparing them before He expanded them.

As Pastor Kevin said:

“God was not just preparing the land for them; He was preparing them for the land.”

How often are we waiting for God to move while God is waiting for us to grow?

We often believe we’re ready for the blessing, the opportunity, or the next level. But God sees what we cannot see. He understands the growth, character, and maturity needed to sustain what He wants to entrust to us.

Some blessings would crush us if they came too early.

The process is not punishment.

It’s preparation.

God’s timing isn’t evidence that He has forgotten you. More often, it’s evidence of His wisdom and His love.

He is developing the capacity you’ll need to carry what He has planned for your future.

Keep Going
Maybe you’ve been praying for something that hasn’t happened yet.

Maybe you’ve been working toward a goal that still feels out of reach.

Maybe you’ve been faithful, obedient, and consistent, yet you’re wondering when you’ll finally see the breakthrough.

Take heart.

God is still working.

When you don’t see it, He’s working.

When you don’t feel it, He’s working.

Every prayer matters.

Every step matters.

Every act of obedience matters.

The best things in life rarely happen all at once. They unfold little by little.

How do you raise children? Little by little.

How do you build trust? Little by little.

How do you heal? Little by little.

How do you grow in faith? Little by little.

How do you build a life that honors God? Little by little.

One prayer at a time.

One step at a time.

One act of obedience at a time.

If you don’t quit, what feels slow today may become the breakthrough you celebrate tomorrow.

Stay faithful. Stay encouraged. Keep growing.

Because all progress, all growth, and many of God’s greatest blessings happen little by little.
