Raise the Banner
Every team rallies around something.
In sports, it’s a logo on a jersey.
In business, it’s a mission statement.
In the Church, it’s something far greater. It’s the banner of Jesus Christ and the mission He has entrusted to us.
The strongest teams aren’t built around personalities. They aren’t built around preferences or platforms. They’re built around a shared purpose.
Psalm 20:5 says,
“May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God.”
A banner represents identity. It tells people who we belong to and what we’re willing to stand for.
As followers of Christ, our banner isn’t our opinion, our position, or even our church name. Our banner is Jesus.
When we raise His banner, something powerful happens. Individual gifts become unified purpose. Different personalities become one team. Different generations become one family.
That’s the beauty of the local church.
Every person brings unique strengths, experiences, and perspectives, yet we’re all moving in the same direction. Unity doesn’t require uniformity. God never intended us to all look the same. He simply calls us to pursue the same mission.
One of the greatest ways we protect unity is through honor.
Honor says, “I’m for you.”
Honor celebrates another person’s success.
Honor believes the best.
Honor serves without needing recognition.
When we choose honor, we create an environment where people can flourish.
At Champions Centre, we often say, “We Build Up.” That’s more than a value. It’s a culture. Encouragement is contagious. Gratitude is contagious. Unity is contagious. And when a team chooses to build one another up, the entire church becomes stronger.
As Team Church draws near, I’m reminded that the Kingdom has always advanced when churches choose collaboration over competition. We don’t gather because one church has all the answers. We gather because every church has something to contribute, and together we become stronger.
When we lift the right banner, everyone wins.
