What is Honor?
Why Honor is a Significant Part of Our Culture
Last week, we explored what honor is—how it’s more than admiration or politeness. Honor is a posture of the heart. It’s the decision to see others the way God sees them: as valuable, intentional, and worthy of our best.
This week, we’re diving into why honor is such a vital part of our culture at Champions Centre. It’s not just a nice idea—it’s a spiritual principle that shapes who we are and how we lead.
1. Honor Aligns Us with Heaven’s Culture
In a world that celebrates sarcasm and elevates critique, honor sets a different tone. The kingdom of God has always operated with a value system that feels upside down to the world. Jesus said, “The greatest among you will be your servant” (Matthew 23:11), and Paul challenged us to “outdo one another in showing honor” (Romans 12:10).
When we live with honor, we reflect the values of heaven. It’s not about pretending people are perfect—it’s about recognizing their God-given potential and treating them accordingly.
2. Honor Builds Unity and Strength
Where there’s honor, there’s unity. Honor doesn’t tear down—it builds up. It creates an environment where people are free to grow, contribute, and become who God has called them to be.
At Champions Centre, we honor up, we honor down, we honor all around. That’s not just something we say—it’s a value. It means we choose to speak with respect, lead with humility, and believe the best in one another.
Dishonor divides. But honor—real, consistent, from-the-heart honor—creates a culture of trust, strength, and forward momentum. It helps us protect unity and build something that lasts.
3. Honor Unlocks the potential Inside of People
Jesus wasn’t honored in His hometown—and as a result, He didn’t do many miracles there (Mark 6:5). That verse reveals something powerful: dishonor limits what people can receive. The opposite is also true—honor unlocks potential.
When we honor someone, we’re creating space for the gifts and calling of God in their life to rise. We’re saying, “I see what God sees in you—and I’m making room for it.”
At Champions Centre, we don’t honor based on status or performance. We honor because every person matters to God and carries divine purpose.
Let’s Continue to Build a Culture of Honor
Honor is not a feeling—it’s a decision. A daily choice. And when we choose to live with honor, we build a culture where people feel seen, empowered, and called up to more.
In a world full of criticism and comparison, let’s be the kind of people who lead the way with honor. Let’s speak life, call out the gifts and potenital in others, and reflect the heart of God.
